Concept explainers
To explain: The process of using notion of symmetry for estimating the number of marbles in a jar.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Symmetry is the physical feature of a system which remains unchanged even after undergoing some transformation process.
It is given that there is1 liter jar. This jar is filled with pieces of marbles. Imagine that the jar is cut into slices and each slice is about the thickness of a marble. The number of marbles in one slice can be roughly counted by looking at the bottom of the jar. So the height of the jar can be estimated in slices, or in marbles. For symmetry it can be assumed, that all the marbles are same in size and shape. So, the total number of marbles in the jar will be equal to the product of total number of slices present in the jar and the number of marbles per slice.
