Chapter 10, Problem 3P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The true statement/statements regarding the dimeric allosteric enzymeis/are to be identified.

Concept introduction:

Enzymes being the catalysts increase the rate of reaction. In an enzyme-catalyzed reaction, the rate of reaction for the product formation depends on the concentration of enzyme, as well as the substrate involved in the reaction via formation of an enzyme substrate complex. The enzyme which is able to do the conformational changes if an effector gets attached to it is known as allosteric enzyme.

kcat = ? an enzyme has an aspartic acid in the active site with a pKa = 4.0 and the kcat for this enzyme is directly proportional to the fraction of this side chain that is ionized. If the kcat at pH = 4.0 is 52.9x103 s-1 what is the kcat for this enzymes at pH 3.5
Why is the reaction rate low at pH7? Be specific and say something about the enzyme structure at the molecular level!
