Chapter 10, Problem 3TOF
Summary Introduction
To Determine:
Whether the given statement is true or false.
Introduction:
Muscle is a bundle or band of fibrous tissue present in a human or animal body. It can contract and move in preserving the position of body parts. Muscles play a role in the production of force and motion. They are mainly responsible for sustaining and shifting posture, locomotion.

For this set of questions you will need to stand up from the chair you are sitting in,
and then sit back down. Do this slowly so that you can pay attention to what is
happening, and if necessary feel the tone of the muscles in your legs as your
standing and sitting (If you are lying down or standing start from a seated position,
then stand, then sit).
a) During the standing phase, what function is being carried out at the hip joint?
b) What are the prime movers (agonists) that are responsible for this particular
movement (Hint: You should be able to feel them activated)?
c) During the standing phase, what function is being carried out at the knee joint?
d) What are the prime movers (agonists) that are responsible for this particular
movement (Hint: You should be able to feel them activated)?
e) As you sit back down, you realize that some of the same muscles activated during
standing are also active when going from standing to sitting. Explain?
1) Describe the different criteria that contribute to how skeletal muscles are named.
For example you can use the names of the muscles below to predict their location, action or appearance:
Abdominal external oblique,
Trapezius,
Flexor carpi ulnaris,
Gastrocnemius
2) Describe the muscles of the anterior abdominal wall.
3) Why are the muscles of the face different from typical skeletal muscle?
Describe an exercise routine that would build up each of the following groups of muscles: anterior arm, posterior arm, anterior forearm, anterior thigh, posterior leg, and abdomen.
