Leukocytes are also known as white blood cells (WBCs). These are about 4,800 to 10,800 WBC/mm3. They constitute less than 1 percent of the total blood volume. These play an important role in the defense mechanisms of the body. These are the only blood cells that have nuclei and other usual organelles.
