The report “Undergraduate Students and Credit Cards in 2004: An Analysis of Usage Rates and Trends” (Nellie Mae, May 2005) estimated that 21% of undergraduates with credit cards pay them off each month and that the average outstanding balance on undergraduates’ credit cards is $2169. These estimates were based on an online survey that was sent to 1260 students. Responses were received from 132 of these students. Is it reasonable to generalize the reported estimates to the population of all undergraduate students? Address two possible sources of bias, and name the bias in your answer.
Government economic studies reveal that young adults, not middle-aged or older adults, are having the most difficult time in today’s economy. Although the nation’s labor market shows a decline in the unemployment rate, the percentage of young adults, ages 18 to 24, currently employed (54 percent) is at the lowest level since the government data collection began in 1948. If you were working for a national survey organization doing a general public survey of young adults and older adults, what topics and questions would you design into your survey to elaborate on this finding?

In June 2005, a CBS News/NY Times poll asked a random sample of 1,111 U.S. adults the following question: "What do you think is the most important problem facing this country today?" Roughly 19% of those sampled answered "the war in Iraq" (while the rest answered economy/jobs, terrorism, healthcare, etc.). Exactly a year prior to this poll, in June of 2004, it was estimated that roughly 1 out of every 4 U.S. adults believed (at that time) that the war in Iraq was the most important problem facing the country. We would like to test whether the 2005 poll provides significant evidence that the proportion of U.S. adults who believe that the war in Iraq is the most important problem facing the U.S. has decreased since the prior poll. a. - Read the following case study and answer ALL questions that follow. Royal bank is in the process of reviewing its saving accounts policy. It has extracted from its client database the savings data of a sample of 205 clients in the LSM5 - 7 categories, which make up the bulk of the bank's clientele. For each client, the gender (1 = female, 2 = male); marital status (1 = married, 2 = single, 3 = separated, 4 divorced, 5 = widowed); age (actual age in years) and the Average middle-of-the-month savings balance for 2018 (in Rands) were also extracted. The management of the bank suspects that gender, marital status and age have significant effects on the amount saved by clients. Table 3.1, below, shows only the first 10 records from the sample data of 205 clients. Note: LSM, Living Standard Measure, is a measure that defines the socio-economic status of a client. This is down from 2.8% for the same period a year earlier. An analyst's review of the data indicates that the reasons for the sales decline include the low price of gasoline and the higher price of a hybrid compared to similar vehicles. Let's assume these statistics remain the same for 2017. That is, 2.5 percent of new car sales are hybrids in the first quarter of 2017. For a sample of 35 vehicles sold in the Richmond, Virginia, area: a. How many vehicles would you expect to be hybrid? (Round your answer to 3 decimal places.) Expected veloe b. Use the Poisson distribution to find the probability that four of the sales were hybrid vehicles. (Round your answer to 4 decimal places.) Probebility c.
