Chapter 11.4, Problem 12SAQ
Summary Introduction

Meiosis is a type of cell division. It contains two successive cell division such as meiosis I and meiosis II. Each division results in two daughter cells, thereby, meiosis finally produces four daughter cells. Meiosis is involved in the production of gametes. During fertilization, two gametes are fused and produce a zygote, a single cell. Errors during the process of meiosis I or II can result in extra or missing chromosomes in cells. These errors occur infrequently and most of them may produce lethal effects. Nondisjunction in meiosis may lead to extra or missing chromosomal DNA.

Students have asked these similar questions
In which parent and during which meiotic division did non-disjunction occur? If there is more than one correct answer, list all correct answers.  You may assume that non-disjunction occurred in only one parent.
If a diploid cell entering meiosis has 12 chromosome pairs, what is the number of possible chromosomes at the end of meiosis?
at what point in meiotic cell division would nondisjunction occur?
