Introduction: The sarcomere is the functional and structural unit of the muscle cell. It is the unit that contract and relaxes. The skeletal muscles have alternative bands of the filaments. The thin filaments are known as actin and the thick filaments are known as myosin. The alternative bands appear as the striations in the skeletal muscles. These filaments are present in the cellular space or within the cells. The following are the steps of the cross-bridge cycle.
