Chapter 12.5, Problem 18BYGO
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
The signal reaches the synapse with the help of presynaptic neuron, releases neurotransmitter. The adjacent neuron, which responds to it, is known as postsynaptic neuron. A neuron can have a vast number of synapses. An action potential is the conduction of electrical impulses across the membrane of neuron. The excitatory and inhibitory effect depends on the type of receptor present in the postsynaptic cell.

Concisely describe five steps that occur between the arrival of an action potential at the axon terminal and the beginning of a new action potential in the postsynaptic neuron.
Because the long axons of neurons look like electrical wires, and both neurons and electrical wires conduct electricity, it is tempting to equate the two. Compare and contrast the functioning of axons and electrical wires in terms of their structure and the nature of the electrical signals they conduct. Please include references.
