Given:

Initial diameter of the sphere, di= 8.75 cm

Therefore, initial radius, ri= 4.375 cm

Initial temperature, Ti= 30°C

Final temperature, Tf= 160°C

Formula used:

ΔV=βViΔT, Where, Vi is the initial volume and β is the coefficient of volume expansion

Calculation:

The relation between change in volume of a substance (ΔV)and change in temperature (ΔT)is given by,

ΔV=βViΔT--- (i),

Where, Vi is the initial volume and β is the coefficient of volume expansion

Here, ΔT=TfTi

For aluminum, β= 75 × 106/°C

For the given sphere, Vi= 43πri3

= 43π(4.375cm)3

= 350.6 cm3

Substituting the known values in equation (i),

ΔV= (75 × 106/°C) × (350.6 cm3) × (160°C 30°C)= 3.42 cm3

Therefore, % change in volume = ΔVVix100%
