Chapter 14, Problem 14.64AQAP
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The name of the alcohol, aldehyde, or ketone produced from the following reactions should be determined.

Concept Introduction:

Aldehydes and ketones are organic compounds having a carbonyl group >C=O, two remaining bonds of the carbon atom of this group may be occupied by alkyl, aryl or hydrogen. When among the remaining bonds at least one is substituted by hydrogen, the compound is said to be aldehyde and when both the remaining groups are occupied by alkyls or aryls, the compound is said to be a ketone.

For alcohols, the hydroxyl group is attached to the hydrocarbon chain.

Interpretation Introduction

To determine:

The name of the alcohol, aldehyde, or ketone produced from the oxidation of 3-methyl-2-pentanol.

Interpretation Introduction

To determine:

The name of the alcohol, aldehyde, or ketone produced from the reduction of 4-methyl-2-hexanone.

Interpretation Introduction

To determine:

The name of the alcohol, aldehyde, or ketone produced from the oxidation of 3-methylcyclopentanol.
