Introduction:
The stomach helps in the mechanical churning of food. It also does chemical breakdown of food by releasing hydrochloric acid (HCl) and proteases. These chemicals can digest the walls of the stomach, but stomach is protected from these chemicals because of mucus lining present in the stomach walls.
