The neural tube is defined as a sheet of nervous tissue that consists of light-sensitive photoreceptor cells. This tube originates as a primordium of the brain as well as the spinal cord. The neural and pigmented layers of retina are held together by the means of a thin film of the extracellular matrix but these two layers are not tightly fused.
