a.
To outline:
The steps of cellular reactions in response to an antigen.
Concept introduction:
Body’s immune system has the ability to recognize “self” from the “nonself cells or foreign cells”. Foreign cells or antigens are marked by some features which include complex molecules like proteins, glycoprotein, and polysaccharides. Antigens are usually found on the surface of pathogenic organisms, in body fluids and on the plasma membrane of cells which are infected.
b.
To discuss:
Whether a new therapeutic approach involving blocking of degranulation of mast cells would be an effective treatment for allergy sufferers or not.
Introduction:
The allergic reaction caused by the immune system or antibodies overreacts and triggers the activation of an antibody against a harmless substance. The substances that generate the immune reactions are called as allergens. Some common allergens are pollen grain, dust mite, insect stings and so on. There is two level of type I hypersensitivity: atopy and anaphylaxis. Atopic allergy is a chronic local allergy and anaphylaxis is a systemic allergic reaction that includes obstruction of the airway and circulatory obstruction.
