Chapter 17, Problem 23ICA
In 1619, Johannes Kepler proposed his third law of planetary motion. This says that the ratio of the square of the orbital period (P) to the cube of the distance (r) from the sun is a constant (C): P2/r3 = C. Given that the orbital period of the Earth is one year [yr], and its distance from the sun is one astronomical unit [au], create two subplots in a single figure window showing the theoretical relationship between orbital period and orbital radius. Place the radius on the abscissa over a range of 0.2 to 50 au, and the orbital period on the ordinate using units of years. One of the plots should use linear axes and the other should use logarithmic axes.

Seawater can be purified by distillation into potable water. If it costs 15 cents per kilowatt-hour for energy, what is the cost of energy to produce 100.0 gallons of drinking water at 100.0 ˚C if the seawater starts at 25.00 ˚C? (1 watt × 1 second = 1 joule). Enter your answer to the nearest penny.

2. During a steady flow process, the pressure of the working substance drops from 1,380 kpa to 138 kpa, the speed increases from 61 m/s to 305 m/s, the internal energy of the open system decreases 58.1 KJ/kg, and the specific volume increases from 0.0625 m3/kg to 0.5 m3/kg. No heat is transferred, determine the work in KW if the mass flow at the rate of 272.15 kg/hr.

- Please include a kinamatic diagram (for velocity) Please DO NOT solve this using velocity analysis (cartesian vector analysis). I would like it to be solved using scalar method. We dont use 3D in this course. We only use scalar analysis for the relative velocity equation as requested in the question (writing the x and y components of the equation and solving the equations for the unknowns). Below I have attached a sample question with solution in order to get an idea on how to use the scalar method to solve my question. I would like question this to be solved in a similar way. Thank you for your understanding.
