Chapter 17, Problem 30ICA

If an object is heated, the temperature of the body will increase. The energy (Q) associated with a change in temperature (ΔT) is a function of the mass of the object (m) and the specific heat(Cp). In an experiment, heat is applied to the end of an object, and the temperature change at the other end of the object is recorded. This leads to the following equation.

     Δ T = Q m C p

An unknown material with a mass of = kilograms is tested in the lab, yielding the following results. Use the polyfit function to determine the specific heat of this material and store the final result in the variable Cp.

Create a proper plot of the data. Add a linear trendline, showing the resulting trend line equation, on the graph for a change in temperature over a range of energy from 5 joules to 70 joules.

The mass of a solid hemisphere is measured once with a digital balance whose resolution is 1 g. The result is m = 50 g. With a caliper, the resolution of which is 0.05 mm, repeated measurements of the diameter D of the hemisphere are carried out. The values obtained for D: 100.30 mm; 100.00 mm; 100.60 mm; 100.10 mm; 100.25 mm; 100.50 mm; 100.40 mm; 100.20 mm; 100.30 mm; 100.35 mm. The result of measuring the mass m is: (a) (50 ± 1) g (b) (50.0 ± 0.58) g (c) (50.00 ± 0.58) g (d) (50.0 ± 0.5) g
An 8 bits absolute binary encoder is used to measure the distance traveled by the material in the conveyor. It is connected in the shaft (d=40cm) where the belt rotates. In the initial location of material the encoder reading is 11010110 as the conveyor rotates, the encoder created 2 complete rotation clockwise and end up with the value of 10001101. What is the distance travelled by the material.
Somewhere DEEP BELOW THE EARTH's surface, at an UNKNOWN displacement from the Earth's center, a particle of mass m is dangled from a long string, length L; the particle oscillates along a small arc according to the differential equation d^2x/dt^2=-(pi^2/36)x. Here x refers to an angular displacement measured from the vertical and t refers to time.  The particle's mass is given by m=3kg. The length of the string is given by L=5 meters. Whenever the particle arrives at a location of x=(pi/12) radians from the vertical, the particle has no instantaneous speed. On both sides of the vertical, that is, x=(pi/12) radians is repeatedly observed to be a 'turning point' for the particle's periodic motion. 1. Draw a clear FREE-BODY diagram of this particle at some arbitrary point during oscillation, making sure to label variables and constants described above. 2. Approximating to three significant digits if necessary, what is the angular frequency of this oscillator on a string? 3. Approximating…
