If an object is heated, the temperature of the body will increase. The energy (Q) associated with a change in temperature (ΔT) is a function of the mass of the object (m) and the specific heat(Cp). In an experiment, heat is applied to the end of an object, and the temperature change at the other end of the object is recorded. This leads to the following equation.
An unknown material with a mass of = kilograms is tested in the lab, yielding the following results. Use the polyfit function to determine the specific heat of this material and store the final result in the variable Cp.
Create a proper plot of the data. Add a linear trendline, showing the resulting trend line equation, on the graph for a change in temperature over a range of energy from 5 joules to 70 joules.

- Kinematics of particleSimple Harmonic Motion, free vibration A point P moves along a straight line according to the equation x = 4t 3 + 2t + 5 where x in ft and t in seconds. Determine the displacement, velocity, and acceleration when t = 3 secondsarrow_forwardRefer to the Worksheet shown, set up to calculate the displacement of a spring. Hooke's law states that the force (F, in newtons) applied to a spring is equal to the stiffness of the spring (k, in newtons per meter) times the displacement {x, in meters): F= kx. ;Chapter 10, Problem 161CA, Refer to the Worksheet shown, set up to calculate the displacement of a spring. Hooke's law states Cell A3 contains a data validation list of springs. The stiffness (cell 83) and maximum displacement (cell C3) values are found using a VLOOKUP function linked to the table shown at the right side of the worksheet. These data are then used to determine the displacement of the spring at various mass values. A warning is issued if the displacement determined is greater than the maximum displacement for the spring. Use this information to determine the answers to the following questions. Write the expression, in Excel notation, that you would type into cell 86 to determine the displacement of the spring.…arrow_forwardThe dependence of thermal conductivity of a material on temperature is given by an empirical equation k = a ebT where a and b are constants, and k is in W/m-K and T is in K. - A support beam used in one of the designs for the theme park, is subjected to vibrations along its length; emanating from two machines situated at opposite ends of the beam. The displacement caused by the vibrations can be modelled by the following equations: x_1=3.75 sin(100πt+2π/9) x_2=4.42 sin(100πt-2π/5) You are required to determine the followings for the vibration of this beam: i. State the amplitude, phase angle, frequency and periodic time of each of these waves. ii. When both machines are switched on, how many seconds does it take for each machine to produce its maximum displacement? iii. At what time does each vibration first reach a displacement of −2??? iv. - Jennifer is conducting an experiment that uses cooling water from a garden hose. In order to calculate the volume flow rate of water through the hose, she times how long it takes to fill a container . The volume of water collected is V = 1.1 gal in time period Δt = 45.62 s, as measured with a stopwatch. Calculate the volume flow rate of water through the hose in units of cubic meters per minute.arrow_forwardThe little brown bat is a common bat species in North America. It emits echolocation pulses at a frequency of 40 kHz, well above the range of human hearing. To allow observers to “hear” these bats, the bat detector as shown combines the bat’s sound wave at frequency f1 with a wave of frequency f2 from a tunable oscillator. The resulting beat frequency is isolated with a filter, then amplified and sent to a loudspeaker. To what frequency should the tunable oscillator be set to produce an audible beat frequency of 3 kHz?arrow_forwardA balloon carrying a first-order thermometer with 15-sec time constant rises through the atmosphere at 6 m/sec. Assume temperature varies with altitude at 0.15 °C/30m. The balloon radios temperature and altitude readings back to the ground. At 3000 m the balloon says the temperature is 0°C. What is the true altitude at which 0°C occurs?arrow_forward
- To measure the density of a stone, a digital scale and a beaker cup filled with water are used. The balance is used to measure the mass of the stone, while the beaker is used to measure the volume of the stone. It is known that the digital balance has a resolution of 0.1 g and that the beaker cup has a resolution of 5 ml. Repeated mass measurements return the following values: 250.0 g; 249.9 g; 250.3 g; 249.6g; 250.1 g; 249.7g; 250.4 g; 250.0 g; 248.8 g; 250.2 g The volume is measured only once. Placing the stone in the beaker, a volume of displaced water equal to 50 ml is measured. Using a k=2.5, check if the density of the stone is compatible or out of line with the value ρ = (4910 ± 65) kg.m-3 (a) none of the above (b) the values are compatible (c) missing data to perform the compatibility test (d) the values are discrepantarrow_forwardThe continuity equation is not based on the principle of conservation of mass.
