Concept introduction: An aldol addition reaction can be carried in acidic as well as the basic medium. In acid-catalyzed aldol addition of propanol, two molecules of propanol are involved. One molecule has a nucleophilic center and attacks on the electrophilic carbon of carbonyl in another molecule.
