Question
Chapter 17, Problem 6TE
To determine
The reason why solution turns red when red-coloured Kool-Aid crystals are added to water
Expert Solution & Answer
Answer to Problem 6TE
Solution turns red because the crystals dissolve in water.
Explanation of Solution
When the red-coloured Kool-Aid crystals are added to water they sink to the bottom because they are high in density. With time the molecules of crystal get dissolved in water by occupying the empty spaces in between the water molecules. As a result, after 24 hours the solution turns red.
Conclusion:
Therefore, solution turns red because the crystals dissolve in water.
