Chapter 17.4, Problem 3CC
Summary Introduction

To draw: Each codon on a messenger RNA (mRNA) that can bind to anticodon 3′-CGU-5′, tRNA molecule, and the amino acid it carries.

Concept introduction:

The genetic information of DNA is based on the nucleotide base sequences. These sequences are transcribed into the mRNA triplets and are called codons. These mRNA triplet nucleotides are read by transfer RNAs (tRNAs) and then translated to form a polypeptide.

Students have asked these similar questions
codon:         1       2     3      4      5       6      7 sequence: TAC ATG GAC AAT GAT TAG GGG   1. What is the sequence of the peptide that would result following translation with a ribosome?     Write your answer like this Met Ala Gly......   2. What mutation(s) would change the peptide to Met Asp Asn Gly Leu Gly ?    Use the codon numbers to help describe where the mutation is located   . What mutation(s) would eliminate peptide translation?   Use the codon numbers to help describe where the mutation is located
Open reading frames... correspond to introns, which are not read by the ribosome during translation correspond to contiguous fragments of DNA sequence that do not contain a stop codon when read in a particular frame correspond to contiguous fragments of DNA sequence that do not contain a stop codon when read in any of six frames are often rich in acetylated histones which allow transcription occur when fragments of DNA sequence are highly similar between two species are recognized by ribosomes to initiate translation
WHAT IF? DRAW IT Draw a tRNA with the anticodon3¿-CGU-5¿. What two different codons could it bind to?Draw each codon on an mRNA, labeling all 5¿ and 3¿ends, the tRNA, and the amino acid it carries.
