Question
Chapter 18, Problem 9E
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation: The evidence that support putting hydrogen in group 1A needs to be explained, also, the dissimilarities of it with group-1A elements need to be explained.
Concept Introduction: In the Long form of periodic table, the non-metals are mainly placed at the right side of the periodic table that is called as p-block elements. Metals make the 75 % part of the periodic table. Metals are electropositive elements and mainly form ionic compound whereas non-metals are electronegative elements and can form either covalent or ionic compounds.

Some versions of the periodic table show hydrogen at the topof Group 1A(1) and at the top of Group 7A(17). What properties of hydrogen justify each of these placements?
Silicon is the foundation of today's Microelectronics.a) Indicate which other elements from group IV of the periodic table find applications in electronics, pointing out their usefulness.b) Similarly, composite materials using elements from groups III-V are widely used. Name at least 3 of these compounds, exemplifying their respective applications.
Discussing this chapter, a classmate says, “Since elementsthat form cations are metals and elements that form anionsare nonmetals, elements that do not form ions are metalloids.”Do you agree or disagree?
