In oxidation-reduction reaction, oxidizing agent is electron acceptor while reducing agents is an electron donor.

Explanation of Solution

Oxidizing agents gain one or more electrons from another reactant. Oxidizing agent is reduced because it accepts electrons. A reactant which gives electrons to another reactant is termed as reducing agent. A reducing agent is oxidized because it donates one or more electrons.

Conclusion

Oxidation is caused by losing electrons and reduction is caused by gaining electrons.
