Concept explainers
Interpretation:
All reaction of glycolysis process that utilizes kinases has to be determined. Also, species that are phosphorylated in these reactions have to be determined.
Concept Introduction:
Enzymes are proteins that serve as biological catalysts for biochemical reactions in organisms. They can enhance
(1) Hydrolase: Enzyme that catalyzes hydrolysis reaction. They can be subdivided into lipase that hydrolyzes ester bond in lipids and proteases that hydrolyze proteins.
(2) Dehydrogenase: Enzyme that catalyzes dehydrogenation reaction.
(3) Oxidases: Enzymes that catalyze oxidation reactions.
(4) Kinase: Enzymes that catalyze transference of phosphate groups.

Principles of General, Organic, Biological Chemistry
- a) knowing how glycolysis works and the action of its enzymes, what would the structures of the products look like when fuculose-1-phosphate aldolase acts on fuculose-1-phosphate. b) one of the products should be familiar so what is it called and how is it used for energy?arrow_forwardIf the phosphorylation of GDP to form GTP requires 7.3 kcal/mol of energy, how much energy is released when GTP is hydrolyzed to GDP?arrow_forwardDraw the mechanism for the third reaction in glycolysis—the reaction of fructose-6-phosphate with ATP to form fructose-1,6-bisphosphate.arrow_forward
