A small trailer and its load have a total mass of 250 kg. The trailer is supported by two springs, each of constant 10 kN/m, and is pulled over a road, the surface of which can be approximated by a sine curve with an amplitude of 40 mm and a wavelength of 5 m (i.e., the distance between successive crests is 5 m and the vertical distance from crest to trough is 80 mm). Determine (a) the speed at which resonance occur, (b) the amplitude of the vibration of the trailer at a speed of 50 km/h.

- In practice, it is often difficult to determine the logarithmic decrement of a system with light damping defined in Prob. 19.129 by measuring two successive maximum displacements. Show that the logarithmic decrement can also be expressed as (1/k) ln(xn/xn+k), where k is the number of cycles between readings of the maximum displacement.arrow_forwardThe front end of a 1000 kg automobile must be raised 100 mm before the front wheel are off the ground. The other end of the spring is attached to a wall, and there is negligible friction between the block and the horizontal surface. When the spring is unstretched, the block is located at x=0m. The block is then pulled to x=0.5m and released from rest so that the block-spring system oscillates between x=−0.5m and x=0.5m, as shown in the figure. Which of the following descriptions about the system are correct? Highlight two answers. The kinetic energy of the block and the spring potential energy of the system at x=0.25m are both half of the total mechanical energy of the system. The spring potential energy of the system at x=0.25m is nearly 3.13 J The kinetic energy of the system at x=0.3m is nearly 4.5J The sum of the spring potential energy of the system and the kinetic energy of the block at x=0.4m is nearly 12.5Jarrow_forward
