Two parallel tubes, both filled with water at room temperature, need to join to become a single tube. The problem is that the pressure switch stopped working, and thus the pressure regulation was impaired. The plant process engineer suggested that the following system be installed in order to determine the pressure difference between the pipes.
What is the pressure difference between the tubes?
Alternative 1:25.33 kPa.
Alternative 2:12.47 kPa.
Alternative 3:139 kPa.
Alternative 4:39.77 kPa.
Alternative 5:0.12 kPa.
A turbine is supplied with steam at a gauge pressure of 1.4 MPa. After expansion in the turbine the steam flows into a condenser which is maintained at a vacuum of 710 mmHg. The barometric pressure is 772mm Hg. Express the inlet and exhaust steam pressures in pascals (absolute).density of mercury = 13.6x103 kg/m3
In a boiler installation dry flue gases are formed at the mean temperature of 327 °C when outside air temperature is 27°C Air is consumed at the rate of 12 kg air per kg of coal and coal is required at the rate of 1200 kg per hour. Actual draught may be taken as 80% of theoretical draught. Determine height of chimney, if the various draught losses are 16 mm water column.
