Concept explainers
Planning and preparing for the unexpected, especially in response to a security incident, is one the greatest challenges faced by information technology professionals today. An incident is described as any violation of policy, law or unacceptable act that involves information assets. Incident Response (IR) learns should be evaluating themselves on metrics, such as incident detection or dwell time, to determine how quickly they can detect and respond to incidents in the environment. In 2018, the SANS Institute surveyed organizations about internal response capabilities. The frequency that summarizes the average time organizations took to detect incidents is:
a. What percentage of organizations took fever then 2 days, on average, to detect incidents?
b. What percentage of organizations took between 2 and 31 days, on average, to detect incidents?
c. What percentage of organizations took 31 or more days, on average, to detect incidents?
d. What conclusions can you reach about dwell time of incidents?

- In 2015, over 30,00030,000 Americans died from opioid overdoses, and the number of inpatient stays and emergency visits to hospitals related to opioids increased dramatically compared to previous years. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) have partnered with the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) to gather data on opioid-related deaths and hospitalizations. These data include information about inpatient stays, emergency department visits, age, sex, income, and opioid-related use. For a given patient admitted to a hospital for an opioid-related event, identify which of these events are disjoint. A) The patient was 62 years old. B) The patient did not visit the emergency room. C) The patient was male. D) The patient was admitted to a large metropolitan hospital. E) The patient's case was critical and they were admitted to the emergency room.arrow_forwardHow Panel Data is useful to control some types of omitted variables without actually oberving them?arrow_forwardA market research firm supplies manufacturers with estimates of the retail sales of their products from samples of retail stores.arrow_forward

However, because 54% of first marriages end in divorce, social scientists have begun investigating influences on marital satisfaction. (Data Source: National Center for Health Statistics.) A counseling psychologist sets out to look at the role of having children in relationship longevity. She decides to measure marital satisfaction in a group of couples with children and a group of childless couples. She chooses the Marital Satisfaction Inventory, because it refers to "partner" and "relationship" rather than "spouse" and "marriage," which makes it useful for research with both traditional and nontraditional couples. Higher scores on the Marital Satisfaction Inventory indicate greater satisfaction. Assume that these scores are normally distributed. A sample of 39 couples with children scored an average of 51.1 with a sample standard deviation of 9.2 on the Marital Satisfaction…arrow_forward
