Describe the three classifications of burns.

To determine

The three classification of burns.

Explanation of Solution

The burns are the most painful and common injuries occurring in the welding shop. The burning can be caused by the Ultraviolet (UV) light rays as well as by the contact with hot welding materials.

Burns are divided into three classifications depending on the degree of severity. The three classifications are:

  1. First-Degree Burns:
  2. The surface of the skin becomes reddish in color, tender and painful and there is no involvement of broken skin. This burn can occur at the temperature of approximately

130°F. The first aid of this type of burn is to put the burned area under cold water until the pain decreases.

  3. Second-Degree Burns:
  4. In Second-Degree Burns the surface of the skins is highly damaged, Due to this breaks in skin is formed. These burns occur at a temperature higher than 130°F
