Textbook Problem

What two amounts must be multiplied to determine the weight of weld metal required to fill a groove or make a fillet weld?

To determine

Weight of the weld metal is calculated by two amounts.

Deposition efficiency is defined as the amount of raw electrode deposited in the weld metal. Deposition efficiency is 100% if the entire amount is deposited.

Some amount of electrode is lost as slag, spatter and fume. Some electrode stub end also unused. So the net amount of the deposited electrode is known as deposition efficiency.

Deposition efficiency is depending on the type of electrode used and the performance of the welder using it. Deposition efficiency is defined as the ratio of weight of weld metal to the weight of electrode used.
