Interpretation:
What are common reaction types of carboxylic acids and ester? Illustrate with suitable examples.
Concept introduction:
The carboxylic acids have a COOH group and ester has a COOR group, these can be reduced to carbonyl compounds or alcohols by suitable reducing agents. The group can be removed by decarboxylation. Carboxylic acid can be converted to its other derivative like acid chloride or amide by substitution of OH group. Acid will also show acid base reactions.
