Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation:
The term very low-density lipoprotein has to be defined.
Concept Introduction:
There are five kinds of lipoproteins responsible for the transport of fat within the blood-stream namely very-low-density lipoprotein, chylomicrons, high-density lipoprotein, and low-density lipoprotein and intermediate-density lipoprotein. Within the blood plasma, VLDL or very low-density lipoproteins are converted to low-density lipoproteins.
(b)
Interpretation:
The functions of VLDLs with that of chylomicrons have to be compared.
The density and size of a lipoprotein vary inversely to each other. For example, the ultra-low density lipoproteins are the least dense of all the lipoproteins while they have the largest particle size.
