Interpretation:

The amino acid sequences: valine-asparagine and asparagine-valine represent the same compound or different compound has to be explained.

Concept introduction: Amino acids condense to form peptide bonds releasing small water molecules. A peptide bond is the chemical bond which is formed between two molecules of amino acid when carboxyl group of one molecule reacts with the amino group of another molecule. A polypeptide containing n amino acids will have (n1) peptide bonds.

The side of a polypeptide chain having free carboxylic group is called C-terminal (right end) and the side having free amino group is called N-terminal (left end).

Explanation

The sequence of amino acid in which they condense to give peptide chain is important. Changing the sequence of amino acid changes the polypeptide formed and the resulting compounds will also be different.

Valine and asparagine can combine in two different ways. Either valine can be present at C-terminal and asparagine at the N-terminal or valine may be present at N-terminal and asparagine at the C-terminal of the dipeptide chain thus giving two different dipeptides.
