Atherosclerosis is a vascular disease associated with the accumulation of lipids leading to the invasion of leukocytes and smooth muscle cells into the intima, a process which may proceed to the formation of plaque on the wall of arteries and vessels.
Cholesterol is a waxy fat carried through the bloodstream by lipoproteins.
