Concept explainers
To Explain:
Difference between electric generator and an electric motor.
Answer to Problem 32A
Generator and motor are machines which converts one form of energy into another. Generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. It uses the concept of induction to generate electrical energy.
Motor, on the other hand, converts the electrical energy into mechanical energy. The potential difference created allows motor to produce mechanical energy.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Generator coverts mechanical energy into electrical energy and uses the concept of induction for this process.
Motor converts the electrical energy provided to it into mechanical energy and uses the concept of Fleming’s left hand rule.
Motor consist of a shaft which is driven by magnetic force. The magnetic force id developed between the armature and the wire. This magnetic field applies force on the armature and the armature moves. The whole process follows Fleming’s Left Hand Rule.
Generator has a shaft attached to the rotor which is moved mechanically and induces current in the generator. The process is based on the
Conclusion:
Both machines are utilized for different purposes. Generator generates electrical energy using mechanical energy whereas motor generates mechanical energy using electrical energy.
