Chapter 25.4, Problem 25.14P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The effect on the pH of blood on taking a diuretic that results in the decrease in the plasma concentration of bicarbonate.

Concept introduction:

The pH of a solution is defined as negative log of hydrogen ion concentration in the solution. The acidity of a solution is directly proportional to the hydrogen ion concentration. Thus, a solution with low pH value is more acidic in nature.

The pH value below 7 shows acidic solution and pH value above 7 indicates basic solution.

The pH value 7 indicates the solution is neutral.

Why do soaps have a basic Ph?
When dissolved in water, flunitrazepam, also known as roofies or the "date rape" drug, is difficult to detect because it is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. Recently, a straw has been developed that changes color when placed in a drink spiked with flunitrazepam. A woman at a bar is worried that flunitrazepam was slipped into her water when she left it unattended. She places one of these new color-changing straws into the water and the straw does not change color. Based on this result, is the woman's drink a pure substance or a mixture? mixture pure substance If it is a pure substance, is it an element or a compound? compound
