Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation:
Write the IUPAC name of given compound.
Concept introduction:
IUPAC proposed the rules to name any chemical compound and also proposed different terms to name a chemical compound. According to IUPAC, name of any compound is sum of;
Prefix + Root word + Suffix
Here:
- Prefix indicates any side chain (alkyl group) and also some
functional groups such as nitro, chloro etc. - Root word indicates the number of carbon atoms in the parent chain. The parent chain must be the chain of carbon atoms with maximum number of carbon and also with functional group if any bonded.
- Suffix can show two parts of molecules: functional group bonded on parent chain and multiple bonds if any present in the molecule.
(b)
