Question
Chapter 27.SE, Problem 23AP
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The products formed when a plasmalogen is hydrolysed with aqueous NaOH and with H3O+ are to be stated.
Concept introduction:
When a plasmalogen is hydrolysed with aqueous NaOH only the ester groups in plasmalogen are hydrolyzed to yield an alcohol and sodium salt of the acid parts. The ether link is not hydrolyzed.
When a plasmalogen is hydrolyzed with H3O+, both the ester groups and the ether link get hydrolyzed to yield glycerol,
To state:
The products formed when plasmalogen is hydrolysed with aqueous NaOH and with H3O+.
