Concept explainers
Introduction:
Cellular membrane, nucleus, and cytoplasm are the three major components of a cell. Cellular membrane, which surrounds the entire cell, is composed of phospholipids and proteins. The nucleus is bound by a nuclear membrane, and it possesses the genetic material of the cell. Cytoplasm consists of organelles, cytoskeleton (filaments and tubules), and inclusion bodies. Other organelles present in a cell include endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, Golgi complex, mitochondria, centrioles, peroxisomes, and lysosomes. Protoplasm denotes all living material that are present in the cell enclosed by the cellular membrane (inside and outside the nucleus).

- Put the following structures in order according to the pathway of a secreted protein: a. plasma membrane b. Golgi bodies c. endoplasmic reticulum d. post-Golgi vesiclesarrow_forwardFigure 3.13 Why does the cis face of the Golgi not face the plasma membrane?arrow_forwardDescribe the structure and functions of the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi complex, and explain how they interact.arrow_forward
- What does lysosome contain?arrow_forwardCompare and contrast the following terms: Lysosome and peroxisomearrow_forwardTrue about the Golgi Complex EXCEPT A number of stacks of differing compositions make up the complex that is enclosed by one continuous membrane. The cis- and trans- Golgi network are at farthest ends from each other, one is nearest the ER. Vesicles bud out of the trans Golgi network to distribute their cargo to targetted destinations. The various Golgi stacks have varying compositions.arrow_forward
