Answer to Problem 6TE

The jet streams are the narrowband high-speed wind that moves near the top of the troposphere. The formation of the jet stream takes place when cold air masses present in the atmosphere meets with warm air masses.

Explanation of Solution

The narrow wind with high speed that moves near the top of the troposphere is known as the jet stream. The magnitude of their speed varies from 80 mph to 140 mph. The position that the streams have varies the temperature and cause the stream weather. Strong storm and heavy rains are examples of the extreme weather which can occur due to jet stream.

The formation of the jet stream takes place when cold air masses present in the atmosphere meets with warm air masses. The difference in temperature among the cold as well as warm air masses causes the high speed of the jet stream.

Conclusion:

Therefore, the jet streams are the narrow band high speed wind that moves near the top of the troposphere. The formation of jet stream takes place when cold air masses present in the atmosphere meets with warm air masses.
