Concept explainers
Write an example of a linear equation of the form Ax + By = C for B = 0. Then describe the graph of the equation.
Answer to Problem 62HP
Example equation is x = 4, it is parallel to the y − axis and it is called as vertical line.
Explanation of Solution
Given:
The equation in the form Ax + By = C for B = 0
Concept Used:
A linear equation is any equation that can be written in the form.
No variable in a linear equation is raised to a power greater than 1. Linear equations are those equations that are of the first order.
Standard form of Linear Equation is
Calculation:
The equation in the form Ax + By = C for B = 0
B = 0 means the coefficient of y is zero. There is no term with y.
Example equation: x = 4
Graph the equation x = 4
Now graph the equation. x = 4 is a line parallel to the y − axis. It is called vertical line.
For any value of y, the x value is always 4.
The points on the line are (4 , 4 ) , ( 4 , 0 ) and ( 4 , − 4 )
Thus, example equation is x = 4, it is parallel to the y − axis and it is called as vertical line.
