To identify:
The parallels in the properties and effects of epinephrine and the plant hormone auxin.
Introduction:
The organs of endocrine system release chemical signal as hormones. A hormone is released by the organ system when it receives an internal stimulus. The glands of endocrine system release their content directly into the blood circulation and regulate other organs of the body. They have no ducts and are called as ductless glands. The hormones of endocrine system are responsible for the regulation of body
The plants also produce hormones that play important role in the plant growth but their hormones are not secreted by glands. Their hormones are secreted by different cells in plant body. The plant hormone auxin is responsible for the growth of plants. Auxin promotes root initiation in plants.

- Describe two general chemical features that distinguish plant hor- mones from animal hormones.arrow_forwardWhat are the effects brought by cytokinin in plants? Explain the partnerships between cytokinin with auxin and hormone mentioned in Question 3 a). (i) (ii) Write an account on interactions between gibberellins, indole acetic acid and abscisic acid in plant growth promotion and seed germination.arrow_forwardGreen fluorescent protein (GFP) can attach and mark other proteins with fluorescence, enabling scientists to see the presence of a particular protein. In an experiment to understand the molecular physiology behind the GA-induced seed germination, a GFP-tagged protein was observed to be moving from the cytoplasm into the nucleus of aleurone layer cells before the detection of alpha-amylase in the endosperm. Based on your knowledge, identify the possible protein(s) with which the GFP is attached in the given situation. Justify your answer.arrow_forward
- 1. Plant Hormone signal transduction is an exciting field and the mode of signaling for various hormones in the cellular context have been elucidated. Compare and contrast the plant hormone Auxin and ethylene signal transductions mechanisms. (Hint. Begin at the Receptor level)arrow_forwardPlease type the answer to all parts of this question Answer the following question about the Quiescent Center (QC) of the root meristem. (a) What is the QC of the root meristem? (b) How is QC identity established? (Describe the plant hormone(s) and genes that are involved in QC development)arrow_forwardThe signaling molecule for flowering might be released earlierthan usual in a long-day plant exposed to flashes of(A) far-red light during the night.(B) red light during the night.(C) red light followed by far-red light during the night.(D) far-red light during the dayarrow_forward
- Describe a general mechanism of action for plant hormones, using auxin as your example.arrow_forward. MAKE CONNECTIONS What type of feedback processis exemplified by the production of ethylene during fruitripening? Explain. (See Figure 1.10.)arrow_forwardA tobacco plant has successfully fended off plant pathogen via hypersensitive response (HR). (i) What would you be able to observe on the plant and explain the processes that happened at cellular level? What are the benefits for the tobacco plant that has developed systemic acquired resistance (SAR) in comparison to HR? (ii) (ii) Name the chemical compounds responsible in triggering SAR and how would this signal be transmitted?arrow_forward
- You have been chosen as the lead student gardener for the CSUMB Future Farmers of America Club (FFAC). Your club is looking to you and your Bio211 plant experience to guide them. You arrive at the new FFAC garden plots and notice that while there are many fruits on the apple tree, they seem to remain hard, sour, and green. Your club mates need the red, sweet apples in just a few days for the apple competition. Choose the best hormone to apply and the reason supporting its use: Select one: a. Apply ethylene to the apples to increase ripening. b. Apply ethylene to slow ripening and increase chlorophyll levels. c. Apply auxin to increase parthenocarpy d. Apply gibberellins to increase fruit size. e. Apply auxins to decrease apical dominance and increase water intake.arrow_forwardWhich plant hormone is transported from cell to cell in a polar fashion? What is the mechanism underlying this polar transport?arrow_forwardMAKE CONNECTIONS Compare the function of retinalin the eye with that of the pigment chlorophyll in a plantphotosystem (see Concept 10.2).arrow_forward
