Concept explainers
To explain:
A neuron is like a one-way street, while a nerve is like a two-way street.
Introduction:
Neurons are specialized cells that help to collect external information, analyze the information, and respond to it. Neurons make up a large signaling network, called the nervous system, in the body. A neuron mainly consists of three regions: an axon, the dendrites and a cell body. There are three groups of neurons: sensory neurons, motor neurons, and interneurons.
Explanation of Solution
Neurons fire only in one direction within the brain. They have a chemical receptor at one end and release chemicals at the other. Therefore, the neuron-to-neighbor chain only goes in one direction. Nerves, which work bidirectionally throughout your body.
Thus, it concludes that a nerve impulse is an electrical charge which travels through a neuron's length.
