The Hertzsprung – Russell diagram is a plot between the luminosity of stars and the surface temperature of the stars. In astronomy, it has huge importance. The surface tension of the star is taken along the x-axis and luminosity is taken along the y-axis.

Super Giants and Giants are at the right and the dwarfs are located at the left of the diagonal band. The diagonal band contains the main stars. Sun is located at the average of the H-R diagram as the luminosity and the surface temperature of the Sun is average to other stars.
