Summary Introduction

To explain:

The reason if one avoids taking fever reducing medications when ill, the consequences of overmedicating in a fever and the risk of allowing fever to rise too high.

Concept Introduction:

Fever is a state of the increase in the temperature of the body above the normal temperature of 37oC (centigrade). It occurs due to the infection caused by the micro-organisms like bacteria, fungi and virus. Fever has beneficial effects like increasing the immune system of the body by activating the immune system cells.

Read the situation below and draw a diagram or illustration on how a fever happens. When bacteria are destroyed by leuckocytes, pyrogens are released into the blood. Pyrogens reset the body’s thermostat to a higher temperature, resulting in fever. How might pyrogens cause the body temperature to rise? The hypothalamus maintains the set point for body temperature through reflexes that cause vasodilation and sweating when the body is too warm, or vasoconstriction and shivering when the body is too cold. It responds to chemicals from the body. When a bacterium is destroyed by phagocytic leukocytes, chemicals called endogenous pyrogens are released into the blood. These pyrogens circulate to the hypothalamus and reset the thermostat. This allows the body’s temperature to increase in what is commonly called a fever. An increase in body temperature causes iron to be conserved, which reduces a nutrient needed by bacteria. An increase in body heat also increases the activity of the animal’s…
In young children with a fever, is ibuprofen better than paracetamol at reducing the fever? make recommendations for future research.
In each scenario, identify the stimulus, the response, and the type of feedback mechanisms. 1. You and your family are going to the beach because it is summer. However, minutes aftee swimming, your skin darkens. STIMULUS: RESPONSE: FEEDBACK MECHANISMS : 2. The presence of fever indicates that your body is infected with pathogens that have entered your body. You know that this event may be triggered when you went outside on a rainy day wihtout your umbrella or raincoat. STIMULUS: RESPONSE: FEEDBACK MECHANISMS : 3. Hydrochloric acid waa secreted by your stomach to aid in the chemical digestion of food. The presence of undigested materials signals your body to produce more hydrochloric acid so that digestion will proceed. STIMULUS: RESPONSE: FEEDBACK MECHANISMS : 4. When tissue or blood vessel is torn or cut, the cells near the damaged part send out signals to activate platelets. As platelets begin to form a plug, more chemical signals are released to attract more…
