Chapter 35.5, Problem 2R
Summary Introduction

To review:

The role that strigolactones play in the growth of the plant. The relationship between the experiment conducted and the fact that strigolactones act as signals for parasitic plants and arbiscules.

Introduction:

Plant growth is regulated at many levels by plant hormones. These molecules act as signals and are required in low concentrations. Every phase of plant life, be it germinations or flowering or fruiting or senescence is governed by these signaling molecules. Strigolactones refer to the group of plant hormones, which play an essential role in the plants. Arabidopsis plant mutated for a strigolactone gene has a bushy shoot structure. If strigolactones are applied to the plant, normal growth is achieved.
