Chapter 36, Problem 2SYK
Summary Introduction

To compare and contrast: The mechanisms for the movement of both xylem and phloem sap by bulk flow in an angiosperm.

Introduction: In order to move food, water, and surrounding minerals, the plants require a transport system. The plants use two different systems, namely xylem and phloem. The xylem moves the mineral ions and water from the roots to leaves. The phloem moves food products such as sugars (sucrose) and amino acids from the leaves to the rest of the plants. This process of movement of food is referred to as translocation.

list the cell types concerned with transport of water in angiosperm and briefly explain the difference between the cell types
Because secondary phloem is formed from the vascular cambium just as secondary xylem is, it too has an __________________________ system and a _____________________ system. Why do the size, shape, and number of phloem rays match those of xylem rays?
