Chapter 36.2, Problem 1R
Summary Introduction

To review:

The effect on the synthesis of hydrolytic enzymes in germinating barley seeds treated with messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) translation inhibitor, proteasome function inhibitor, and the effect if the two inhibitors were applied to auxin treated coleoptiles.

Introduction:

Auxin and gibberellic acids are plant hormones that are required for germination and growth of seeds. When the hormones are absent, the transcription of growth-inducing genes is inhibited by the binding of a repressor. The binding of the hormone-receptor complex to this repressor leads to the ubiquitination and degradation of the repressor by the proteasome. This ensures that the growth-stimulating genes can be synthesized.
