Question
Chapter 36.2, Problem 1R
Summary Introduction
To review:
The effect on the synthesis of hydrolytic enzymes in germinating barley seeds treated with messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) translation inhibitor, proteasome function inhibitor, and the effect if the two inhibitors were applied to auxin treated coleoptiles.
Introduction:
Auxin and gibberellic acids are plant hormones that are required for germination and growth of seeds. When the hormones are absent, the transcription of growth-inducing genes is inhibited by the binding of a repressor. The binding of the hormone-receptor complex to this repressor leads to the ubiquitination and degradation of the repressor by the proteasome. This ensures that the growth-stimulating genes can be synthesized.

She will be using onions as a special ingredient and garnish in her recipe. She then planted onions in two soil treatments labelled as ANGAT and UNITY. After a week, SimpLENI noticed that her onions in ANGAT increased in number compared to that of onions in UNITY. She then hypothesized that the soil treatments affected the cellular division in the roots of onions contributing to the difference in yield. To prove this, SimpLENI prepared longitudinal sections of onion root tips. Support SimpLENI in her experiment and win the competition by answering the following questions:arrow_forward
