To determine

Whether NaCl molecule is polar or nonpolar.

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark

Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

Most of the non-polar molecules don't have a dipole moment in them, while if in case the dipole moment is present, it may be due to the external electric or magnetic fields while Polar molecules always have some dipole moment present in it. Polar molecules are water soluble and non-polar moleculesare fat soluble.

In NaCl molecule, the center of charge of the positive ioncontains Na+ and center of charge of negative ion contains Cl and they do not coincide. So, there is permanent dipole moment present in the NaCl . The NaCl molecule shows the property which is same as polar molecules. Thus, NaCl molecule is polar molecule.

Conclusion:

Thus, the NaCl molecule is polar.
