Question
Chapter 38.2, Problem 3CC
Summary Introduction
To identify: The common substance that inactivates the nitrogenase enzyme by binding to its active site.
Introduction: Nitrogen is required to synthesize various nitrogenous compounds and other cell constituents. The enzyme nitrogenase is used by nitrogen-fixing prokaryotic organisms to fix nitrogen. Additionally, these prokaryotic organisms also require ATP for the process of nitrogen fixation. Nitrogen-fixing bacteria are able to fix nitrogen and make it available for the plants to utilize for various cellular processes.
