Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The difference between a qualitative observation and a quantitative observation needs to be explained with an example of each.
Concept introduction:
The qualitative observation is simple subjective type observation for the data analysis, while the quantitative observation is totally based on numeric form. The qualitative observation abstracts the experimental concepts in other way the numerical data of experiment collected by the quantitative observation.
Answer to Problem 117A
The main difference between the qualitative and quantitative observation is the numerical information and subjective parameter.
Explanation of Solution
The qualitative observation is variable in nature and not accurate. They can’t be measured or can’t be recorded. Qualitative observations give the information about the concept and these observations are semi-structured.
For example- The color of copper sample is blue.
The reaction produces the white color product.
On the other hand, the quantitative methods is the collection of data which are much more structure. This data can be collected by various methods like surveys on paper or online.
For example- The mass of the cylinder of aluminum was 14.43 g.
The volume of the gas in the cylinder is 1 L.
Both types of observations have their equal importance in research fields. From these types of observations an experimental data can be proved by objective as well as subjective parameter.
