The patient Kristen was diagnosed with severe burns of the legs. The skin layers consist of the epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. The technique of autografting is used in which the skin from some other parts of the body is transplanted in a region which has been injured and burnt due to injury to the body. If the burn injuries are severe, then skin from some other person is transplanted to the patient with same immunocompatibility so that the chance of rejection decreases. This technique is called as the allograft. The method now a day’s involves the growth and differentiation of the skin cells in a petri plate under aseptic sterile conditions.
