Lean and Mean
Megan McNeil,
The product design team has constructed the framework for a house of quality from initial customer interviews. Now the team is set to perform a competitive assessment by selecting three popular grocery store brands and measuring the design characteristics. As the team works on the house, it is anticipated that additional design characteristics may emerge. The target values section of the house would represent L&M’s new brand.
Complete the house of quality in Figure 4.15 Lean & Mean House of Quality, and write a report to Megan containing your recommendations for the new product development. Be sure to explain how you arrived at your conclusions.

Construct a Simple Linear Programing Analysis using Excel SOLVER Prepare a presentation to DI’s president presenting your findings and recommendations. Digital Imaging’s Leadership team has providing the following information: Digital Imaging (DI) produces color printers for both the professional and consumer markets. The DI consumer division recently introduced two new color printers. The DI-910 model can produce a borderless color print in approximately 37 seconds. The more sophisticated and faster DI-950 can even produce a borderless color print. Financial projections show profit contributions of $42 for each DI-910 and $87 for each DI-950. The printers are assembled, tested, and packaged at DI’s plant located in New Bern, North Carolina. This plant is highly automated and uses two manufacturing lines to produce the…arrow_forwardAudio Cables, Inc., is currently manufacturing an adapter that has a variable cost of $ 50 per unit and a selling price of $1.00 per unit. Fixed costs are $14,000. Current sales volume is 30,000 units. The firm can substantially improve the product quality by adding a new piece of equipment at an additional fixed cost of $6,000. Variable costs would increase to $ 60, but sales volume should jump to 50,000 units due to a higher-quality product Should Audio Cables buy the new equipment?arrow_forward
- The seasonal yield of olives in a Piraeus, Greece, vineyard is greatly influenced by a process of branch pruning. If olive trees are pruned every two weeks, output is increased. The pruning process, however, requires considerably more labor than permitting the olives to grow on their own and results in a smaller size olive. It also, though, permits olive trees to be spaced closer together. The yield of 1 barrel of olives by pruning requires 5 hours of labor and 1 acre of land. The production of a barrel of olives by the normal process requires only 2 labor hours but takes 2 acres of land. An olive grower has 250 hours of labor available and a total of 150 acres for growing. Because of the olive size difference, a barrel of olives produced on pruned trees sells for $20, whereas a barrel of regular olives has a market price of $30. The grower has determined that because of uncertain demand, no more than 40 barrels of pruned olives should be produced. A furniture company makes two products: book shelves selling for ₱5,000 and cabinetsselling for ₱8,000. The direct cost per unit is ₱3,000 and ₱4,000, respectively. Thecompany has no difficulty in selling all the products it can manufacture. The assemblydepartment has 60 hours available per week and the finishing department can handleup to 48 hours of work per week. - Systems Development Life Cycle: Objectives and Requirements Source: http://www.benderrbt.com/Bender-SDLC.pdf A systems development lifecycle (SDLC) has three primary objectives: ensure that high quality systems are delivered, provide strong management controls over the projects, and maximise the productivity of the systems staff. In order to meet these objectives, the SDLC has many specific requirements it must meet, including: being able to support projects and systems of various scopes and types, supporting all of the technical activities, supporting all of the management activities, being highly usable, and providing guidance on how to install it. The management activities include: setting priorities, defining objectives, project tracking and status reporting, change control, risk assessment, step wise commitment, cost/benefit analysis, user interaction, managing vendors, post implementation reviews, and quality assurance reviews. In order to meet all of the SDLC's objectives and…arrow_forward) Creative Sports Design (CSD) manufactures a standard-size racket and an oversize racket. The firm’s rackets are extremely light due to the use of a magnesium-graphite alloy that wasinvented by the firm’s founder. Each standard-size racket uses 0.125 kilograms of the alloy andeach oversize racket uses 0.4 kilograms; over the next two-week production period only 80kilograms of the alloy are available. Each standard-size racket uses 10 minutes of manufacturingtime and each oversize racket uses 12 minutes. The profit contributions are $10 for eachstandard-size racket and $15 for each oversize racket, and 40 hours of manufacturing time areavailable each week. Management specified that at least 20% of the total production must be thestandard-size racket. How many rackets of each type should CSD manufacture over the next twoweeks to maximize the total profit contribution? Th e negative aspect ofthis new equipment would be an increase in both fi xedand variable costs. Annual fi xed costs would increase by$50,000 and variable costs by $3. However, marketingexpects the better-quality product to increase demandto 70,000 units.
