Chapter 4, Problem 7RQ

If a bat hits a ball with 1000 N of force, with how much force does the ball, hit back on the bat?

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
To determine

The force with which the ball hits back on the bat.

Answer to Problem 7RQ

The force with which the ball hits back on the bat is 1000N .

Explanation of Solution

When a bat hits a ball with a certain force then, the ball also exerts the same amount of force back on the bat, as per the Newton’s third law. Both the forces of bat and ball are colinear and identical in nature.

Thus, if the magnitude of the force that bat exerts on the ball is 1000N then the force with which the ball hits back on the bat is also 1000N, but in the opposite direction.

Conclusion:

Therefore, the force with which the ball hits back on the bat is 1000N.
